I've dabbled with Digg and have an account. I had no idea there was a massive side market to popularize your story. Can it be safe to say that artificially popular Diggs do not bring the desired results? Is it worth paying that much if the people 'digging' the article are not interested and simply in it for profit?

Is the upside that even though the initial diggers are in it for pure profit, the end result is real customers are exposed to your article?

Any light you can shed would be of help. I'm trying to grasp the whole concept of Digg.
